What the online world is saying about Soul of Athens

Monday, June 1st, 2009

I think they like us.

We’re getting a lot of positive feedback on Twitter, which I’ve been monitoring throughout the morning. If you’d like to see what people are saying, search the hashtag #soulofathens. Also, if you tweet something nice about us, we’ll probably follow you. ;)

There’s a great article about us on RESOLVE, the liveBooks photo blog, in which Miki Johnson interviews SOA Senior Producer Jenn Poggi about the project.

The National Press Photographers Association was kind enough to run a story announcing our launch.

We made the front page of The Post (Ohio University’s student-run newspaper), as well.

There’s also the article in Outlook, Ohio University’s news and information source.

The Adorama Learning Center posted about us in their TechTock blog.

Innovative Interactivity has some kind words and good criticism for us this year. We’ll definitely look into the issues they bring up.

Let us know if we’ve missed anything!

Behind the Scenes 2008: Unexpected Richness

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

As director of Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication, Terry Eiler guide’s this year’s team as they navigate these barely chartered waters in visual narrative. Eiler admits he underestimated the rural Athens County when he first moved here, and now 30 years later, he marvels at the unexpected stories he’s encountered since those days. It’s the richness and depth of the county’s character that lends itself so perfectly to storytelling, he points out during this interview conducted while SOA 2.0 took shape.

Social Soul

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

The Soul of Athens project is in it’s final stages now. We have 11 days until launch as I’m writing this.

I wanted to share some of the new things we’re doing.

First of all, we are trying to make this a very “social” project. We have created a group on Flickr for the project called The Soul of Athens Group. Any images you add to the group will show up in the project. We want people who are part of the Athens community or visiting Athens, to show us what they think the soul of Athens is.

We are using Brightcove to distribute our Teasers, behind the scenes video, and also the stories.

We are using Basecamp by 37signals for collaboration among the producers. I don’t think we could have done this project without this incredible tool.

To get the word out about the project, we are using:
