Is this the first time you participated in Soul of Athens? If not, how many years have you been involved?

First year

Give a short description of your project for Soul of Athens.

Celeste story, SCA

Tell us about your experience working on Soul of Athens this year.

Had insomnia, feel exhausted. Was good to work in a team with writer, was nice to meet a lot of interesting people and see their work. Was hard to work with film, because I could not get feedback and show work. Inspiring – how much and hard people could work. Wish the project could have been more people-oriented.

Looking back, what would you have done differently?

Take it for 4 credit hours. Probably would work on a project I started before and had set up contacts and probably shoot digital or video.

While spending long hours working on Soul of Athens, what was your food of choice?

More coffee than usual

This is my second year participating in the Soul of Athens project. Last year, 2010, I was a content creator for the story, Small Town Heroes.

Give a short description of your project for Soul of Athens.

I created a multimedia piece about a family whose home was destroyed in the September 2010 tornado. I had been photographing the family and the path that the tornado hit since September and decided to focus my Soul story on the one family. While I was photographing the family I decided to focus the story, not only on the destruction from the tornado, but on the faith that the family began to practice after their lives had been changed from the storm.

Soul of Athens is an amazing experience. I have learned more from working with my fellow content creators and senior producers than in any other class. Soul of Athens brings every class that we’ve ever had in Viscom together in one quarter. It’s great!

Looking back, what would you have done differently?

This year was a lot more calm then last year. Because I started my story in September, I had created ample content by the time that Soul of Athens came around in the spring. I totally changed and refocused my edit for Soul of Athens, but I was able to make it great!

While spending long hours working on Soul of Athens, what was your food of choice?

Veggies, lots of veggies.

“The things we hold dear” – creative development, still photography

My experience with Soul of Athens exceeded my expectations. From initial concept development through implementation, my team was awesome and there were very few hiccups.

Looking back, what would you have done differently?

I am very proud and happy with the way things went. I worked on a large project with Connor Lamb and Sam Owens and the team dynamic was awesome and working as a team made it all possible.
